tumbled cobalt-shard · blue
no. 02 · bf-coll.
picked up by you in passing — the blue caught the eye from three steps away. heavier than the green one and rarer; once this colour came mostly from old medicine bottles, the kind a lighthouse keeper would keep at the back of a cabinet for the cold months.
about fourteen grams in the palm. the corners gone, but not yet to chalk. the matt face holds the salt; held to a lamp it pretends to be a pebble of the sea itself, undecided about whether to be water again.
for now it lives in the same small dish as a shell and a few grains of sand that came home in a pocket. nothing to be done with it. it does the job of being blue.
field-note — wet, the blue deepens by half a tone. dry, it returns. neither colour, between, is the colour it once was.
