where the eye lands and rests · vignette, no scale
most of looking is unrecorded. the eye crosses the room and lands somewhere warm, stays a moment, leaves. between landings it is in transit; between landings it sees almost nothing.
i marked only the resting places. the candle, lit; a face; the window when the light shifts. the line that joins them is the order, not the shape, of looking. the rest of the field is what the eye passed over without noticing it had.
a map of attention is also a map of what was let go. see witness; see breath; see how a window keeps drawing the gaze back, without permission.
