i made this map by walking. the green patches are not parks alone: a cemetery, a disused yard, a courtyard between two flats, the rooftop where one is not supposed to be. the church is quiet inside even when the bells are not, which is the church's accomplishment.
the deeper green at the bottom is the disused yard. nothing is happening there except slow corrosion, and the sound of slow corrosion is too small to find on any instrument. this is the kind of quiet one looks for after a long night, when the four-o'clock noise of the city is at last spent.
the dots are exceptions to the loud streets: a doorway no one uses, an alley behind the cinema, the second alley. one can stand inside any of them for a long moment and hear what is going on without being inside it. see also silence; see four a.m. when the whole city briefly turns into one of these patches.
