toast with honey
one slice · four minutes · winter, mostly
ingredients
- one thick slice of yesterday's bread
- cold butter, salted
- a spoon of honey, dark if possible
- a flake of salt, optional
method
- toast until the bread is dark at the edges but the centre still gives.
- butter the toast while it is hot; the butter must disappear into it.
- spoon honey across one corner; eat from that corner first.
the honey is the kindness of an entire summer kept in a jar.
