to whom it may concern,
i write regarding the package that arrived on the eleventh of last month, in which the photograph i had ordered was bent at one corner.
i am aware this is a small matter. i would like to be the kind of person who does not mention it, and i am writing this letter in part to find out whether i am.
i do not require a replacement. i would simply like the bend to be recorded somewhere as a fact, in case i later remember it differently.
thank you for your time, which i imagine is not given freely.
— yours sincerely,

not sent because the writer, on rereading, found the letter to be less a complaint than a small report on her own character, and decided that the post office was not the place for that. filed instead under errata.
