oil on canvas · undated · school of m. corvin
a low hill, a single tree, one lit window far off in a house no longer there. a small landscape — a pocket landscape, the kind a traveller could carry. it is unsigned. the attribution to corvin's school is generous and recent.
it has been catalogued twice as "evening with a farm" and once as "evening, after rain", though no rain appears in it. the cataloguers were each working from memory of the painting from a different decade. each was right about its own decade.
field-note the single light goes out, briefly, on certain evenings. visitors who have seen this happen are not believed by visitors who have not.
