card · torn at the perforation · matinée, some afternoon
a small piece of yellow card, torn cleanly along its perforation. row H, seat fourteen, a matinée. the name of the venue, the name of the film, and the half of the ticket the usher kept all went the other way, and the half you have is mainly the part that didn't matter.
you went alone. you were early. you sat through the trailers in the half-dark while the other ten people in the cinema settled into their coats. when the film began you were already a little undone by the simple fact of having been let in. the film was, in the event, only fine. the matinée, however, was excellent.
the stub came home in a coat pocket and, by way of the small steel pin, was fastened for a while to the inside cover of a notebook. it has since become loose again and rejoined the other pocket-objects, where it keeps the company of a folded receipt from a quite different morning.
