viridian

a green that is not friendly. the green of standing water. the green of the painter's tube that is never quite the green you wanted but is the green you keep using.

in sometemple it is the colour of forest in the deeper hour, of moss on the north side of stone, of the bottle on the shelf in kitchen whose label has come off. it sits in the corner of garden and refuses to grow.

a colder cousin of lichen. an industrial pigment dressed up as nature. it has been waiting for you since 1838.
