manual · 1949 · grandfather's wrist
it was given to him in 1949 by his employer, with no ceremony and no engraving. he wore it daily for fifty-one years through three jobs, a divorce, the loss of a brother, and the birth of two children he was not always good to. it has been on no other wrist since the morning he died.
it now keeps time precisely; it has, in fact, been keeping the same time as time for as long as anyone has measured. you put it on once a year, on his birthday, and it sits hot on your wrist for an hour and then cools.
field-note · the leather is darker on the side that touched skin. the dial smells of pipe smoke.
