a wedding bouquet

smaller than the photographs would suggest. cream roses, a little eucalyptus, one stem of something the florist could not name and called a filler. bound with the same ribbon the dress was hemmed with.

it was held tight enough that the stems bruised through the wrap. it is now in a glass of water on the registry desk, beside the pen and the open book, while everyone is in the next room. see also: the note, the ribbon, the threshold.

by the end of the evening it will be carried home by someone who did not catch it, and left on a chair in the kitchen.

field-note — the unnamed stem keeps its colour longest. the eucalyptus turns silver overnight and is more itself than it was.
