a bouquet for an arrival

three sunflowers, two stems of white stock, eucalyptus. picked up in a hurry from a stand at the station. the bouquet is too heavy at the top — a beginner's bouquet, made by someone with strong feelings.

it is held against a coat at the end of the platform while the train is announced and then delayed. the sunflowers face the wrong way and are turned and turned again. see also: the ferry, the bridge, the visitor who stayed.

after the train comes in, the bouquet will spend an hour in a taxi between two laps, and then go straight into a jug of cold water at the kitchen sink, still in its paper.

field-note — a person carrying flowers at a station is recognisable from a long way away. the bouquet does most of the work; the face only confirms.
