a quiet wedding

in the kitchen, after the soup

an unannounced marriage was solemnised at the long lane on the eighteenth of october, between m. and the second sleeper of the upper room. the custodian witnessed; no others were present.

the rite was conducted in the kitchen, after the soup had been cleared. the window was open, as it always is. a moth, drawn in by the lamp, settled briefly on the bride's sleeve and was left there.

the couple have asked that no notice be paid; this one is therefore posted only here, where no one looks. they will keep the room they already keep, and add nothing.

m. & the second sleeper

no rings · no announcement · the lamp left burning low

a marriage so small that the register simply adds a comma. of the lane's three weddings this year, two were of this sort. the kitchen does not mind. weddings are taken here in the same ritual as making bread: gently, and without interruption.
