a room with no obvious door

the walls are panelled in the same tongue-and-groove all the way round. one of the panels is hinged at an edge so neat it cannot be seen except by touch; the keeper has found it twice, and lost it both times the next morning. there is nothing else in the room.

there is no handle, no escutcheon, no draught at the foot of any seam. the floor is unbroken oak and the boards do not betray a threshold. when standing in the room the door becomes one panel of five, and then another, and then any.

the keeper supposes the room was hidden on purpose by a carpenter pleased with their own pleasing. the keeper does not visit it deliberately. it is found accidentally and exited the same way. field-note: when the door is closed from inside, the room becomes a room without any door at all.
