a grandfather, with two

he brought the older one and the younger one. the older one ran ahead into the corridor at once, the younger stayed with his coat. he had been here as a child himself; he did not mention this to them.

the three of them sat in the kitchen for a while and the older one drew a map of the rooms on the back of an envelope. on the way out the younger asked if the building was a library. the grandfather said it was a kind of one.

field-note he stood at the door for a long moment before leaving. i think he was counting something. the children were already in the courtyard, arguing about which way the gate had been.
