front-right leg, split at the knee. the heavy guest sat down too certainly. a sound, not large, that everyone remembers in different tones. a man with a small toolbox came on a tuesday and put iron to the wood. the iron is still there.
one could replace the leg. it has been thirty years and one has not. the iron brace makes the chair what it now is — a chair that has been sat on too hard, once, and that did not break entirely. the brace sits at the height of a hand resting on a thigh.
it is still given to the heavy guest, who is now a thin guest, and who still always sits in it.
