— a small will —

i, a. corvin, being of sound enough mind & of the long lane, do leave the following small things, in case the morning does not arrive:

  1. to the kitchen, the small kettle. it is the better of the two.
  2. to the library, the two books not returned, & my apologies.
  3. to the light, the box of matches in the second drawer.
  4. to whoever next sleeps in the upper room, the blue ribbon & the brass thimble.
  5. to myself, if she comes back: the coin, kept on the sill.
  6. to the next visitor, the candle, lit.

nothing else is mine to give. the building keeps the building.

signed,
a. corvin

— · custodian

not a will at law — the language is too small for that — but the bequests have been observed. the small kettle is in use. the candle is on the sideboard. the coin remains on the sill. the custodian witnessed; the custodian always witnesses.
