a weather vane

an iron rooster on the high ridge above the south gable, its breast pitted by a century of small weather. it points where the wind has decided. at the moment, the wind has decided north-by-northwest and is sticking to it.

the rooster's tail is the part that listens; the head is the part that argues. between them, a fixed cross of N, E, S, W that has long since rusted to the spindle. nobody climbs up to it. nobody is light enough.
