peltz & daughter · bakers · est. 1887
the lamp inside is older than the bread. she keeps it lit until the last of the dark loaves go, then for some time after, because the street looks better with one yellow square in it.
the daughter is not in tonight; she is somewhere with the recipe in her head and a margin to write it in. the father, who never spelled peltz the way it is on the awning, kneaded these.
field-note: a single pretzel is missing from the upper shelf. it is not in any of the children's pockets.
